Civil and Commercial Law

This department covers the legal relationships between individuals: what follows from a contract that was signed, what arises from harm that was done, and what remains owed as a debt or an obligation. It is the department you need when the other side is a person rather than a company, and when what is in dispute is a personal right rather than a commercial transaction.

What this department handles

  • Drafting and reviewing civil contracts before they are signed: sale, loan, construction, agency and similar agreements.
  • Disputes arising from performance: late performance, breach of terms, claims for rescission or for specific performance.
  • Claims for compensation, whether for material loss or for moral harm.
  • Recovering and proving debts, and pursuing promissory notes and guarantees.
  • Questions of legal capacity, guardianship and civil powers of attorney.

When this is the right department

If your dispute is with a natural person — a counterparty to a contract, a contractor, a borrower, a neighbour — this is your department. If what is in dispute is a company, a commercial register entry or a partnership between traders, see commercial law. If the dispute concerns ownership of a property, or a transaction registering one, each has its own department: real estate and property for disputes, and property transactions for the paperwork.

What helps at the first consultation

Any copy of the contract, the correspondence or the receipts, roughly when it happened, and the name and place of residence of the other party. The more precise what you send us, the more precise the opinion we can give and the closer our proposed steps will be to the reality of your file.

How your file is handled while you are abroad

You start by requesting a consultation through the form or on WhatsApp. The legal team reviews your situation and assigns the right specialist. The first consultation is free, and in it we set out what can be done and which documents you will need. Where the matter has to be followed before Syrian courts or authorities, that is done under a power of attorney drawn up and authenticated at the Syrian consulate or embassy in your country of residence, or before a local notary with the required attestations; we tell you the wording you need and the steps that apply where you live. From there everything runs by message, voice call or video call, with no need for you to travel.
